Best Restaurants In Cape Town, South Africa.
Hi All, I thought since I just came back from Cape Town, South Africa, and I was born and raised there I would do my best to give you a list of good restaurants in and around Cape Town area. Bear in mind that Cape Town is a melting pot of cultures therefore very few restaurants sell authentic South African foods. Also, South Africa as a country is very westernized with a heavy South Asia influences in its cuisines. But, having said all of that, you can still find restaurants that sell authentic South African foods.
Though the food is not that much different than your typical American or western foods, you will find that South African foods taste so much better because because of the aforementioned Asian influences.
Also, South Africans about taste more than looks when it comes to food. We use lots of natural ingredients when cooking. Stews, curries and vegetables are very popular. Fish is sold as both fast food and as gourmet. You can also find a lot of your fast food you are already accustomed to.
Here is a list of restaurants. This is not in a particular order:
The only thing I'd caution you on is that if you are not familiar with South Africa you should be accompanied by local tourist bus (ask for township tours) for security reasons. But, if you are able to make it, you'll have the best experience.
Kalkies - Kalk Bay (on the other side of town)
Snoekies - Hout Bay (on the other side of town).

1. Marcos
Marcos is located in downtown Cape Town. It sells authentic South African foods like "Mngqusho"! Be careful not to chop your tongue while trying to pronounce the name; the dish is made up of dried corn and beans. Marcos provides live entertainment that is authentically African. I love the place also because it is still in town you don't have to venture off.2. Mzoli's Meat Place
Mzoli's is in the township of Gugulethu. They sell meat (best grilled meat in all of South Africa) and some authentic South African dishes. When you think Mzoli's think of a cookout. You choose your meat and they grill it for you and bring it over. Vegetarians can accompany you at their own risk or they can enjoy the other dishes that are meatless Mzoli's offers. The only thing I'd caution you on is that if you are not familiar with South Africa you should be accompanied by local tourist bus (ask for township tours) for security reasons. But, if you are able to make it, you'll have the best experience.
3. Balducci's
Balducci's is an Italian restaurant located at the Waterfront! The best fish you'll have in South Africa bar none! Of course it is in the glitziest part of Cape Town, so prices are comparable to America but the food is mouth-watering! OMG!4. Sevruga
Sevruga was a nice surprise. Also located in the Waterfront it is in the glitziest part of the city and prices are comparable to USA. It is absolutely beautiful in terms of ambiance. They specialize on Fish also.5. Fish and Chips
Fish and Chips is available anywhere in Cape Town, Mom and Pop stores or upscale restaurants. If you are in the waterfront area there is fish anywhere. Be careful, South Africans put vinegar in their fries which they call "chips" (like they do in England) so ask them not to put it.Kalkies - Kalk Bay (on the other side of town)
Snoekies - Hout Bay (on the other side of town).
6. Steers
If you want to be close home and you want burgers and fries, Steers restaurants has the best burgers. Yes, their burgers are better than McDonalds or Burger King!7. Mantra.
Go to Mantra for dinner so you can enjoy the most beautiful sunset in the world (I'm not exaggerating). Mantra is located in Camps Bay and you get ocean-front dining. When we were there they had just opened so we got to enjoy the best of everything. Again great food and the sunset just bring everything together.8. Greens Restaurant
Go to Greens Restaurants for some of the best salads in South Africa. We were there for lunch! Greens Restaurant is located in Constania near Cape Town.To watch the playlist of my vlogs to South Africa with my friends, please click on the link below.
